UK authorities has suspended student visa applications at visa application centres in India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

Suspension effective from 1st February 2010

Immigration authorities have suspended UK visas for students from India, Bangladesh and Nepal. The UK government has concerns that applicantions from these countries contain many fraudulent applications.

The head of the points-based system at the UK Border Agency, Jeremy Oppenheim, said:

we have temporarily stopped accepting new applications from North India, Nepal and Bangladesh while we carry out an investigation to ensure they are all genuine.

Many believe that the suspension is aimed at language schools that are suspected of being 'visa factories'.

More scrutiny at airport

Last week, authorities announced that new powers will be given to staff at airports to further investigate suspicious entrants.

Overseas students pay a much higher fees than local students but application for student visas have rise as much as eight times compared to last year.
